Royal Dandy, Royal Dandies

I want to share my personal experience regarding Royal Dandies, which were the mini pig fad before they invented the names micro mini, teacup, etc.   Fully grown they were supposed to be anywhere between 15lbs-25lbs.  Almost 13 years ago before I knew better I bought a Royal Dandy pig.  The breeder had sent me pictures of him standing next to a can of coke and he was so tiny.  The breeder had told me he needed to be on a particular diet and she would send some with him and gave me a link where I could purchase it.  He arrived and he was tiny. I picked him up at the airport and he arrived in a small cat crate and when I looked in it I panicked because I thought it was empty because he was curled up in the back of it.  I just fell in love with him but in the first few days he just didnt seem to be eating right and didnt look good.  So I took him to my vet and he asked me what I was feeding him so I told him what the breeder had told me to feed him and he informed me that it was basically a starvation diet to keep him small.  That just sickened me.  So I started giving him regular pot bellied pig food and within a month he started to look better, be more active and was a happy piggy.  At the time I purchased him I had got the names of a few other people who had purchased from the breeder and contacted them and mentioned to them about the diet, but most of them didn't really care, they wanted a small pig even if it meant an unhealthy, unhappy pig.  Their pigs all died within the first two years.  I'm happy to say that I have a very happy and healthy "Royal Dandie" who will be 13 years old on August 2nd, who weighs somewhere around 120 - 130lbs.

  2. I too bought a Royal Dandy "Extreme" 3 years ago, fed him exactly what the breeder recommended and our boy is now 150 lbs! But we do love him! The breeder says it is our fault that we overfed him. Our vet says he's not overweight, just a big boy.
Don't be fooled by the idea of a "tea cup".

  3. Royal dandies are a complete scam. I own one as well and she is huge. I was concerned about the food that the breeder (Patty Sorensen) was selling us and so I brought it to a nutritionist. Turns out the food she is selling is extremely bad for pigs. It stunts their growth due to basically starving them. I instantly changed the food to a diet recommended by the nutritionist and my pig has been growing like crazy since that day.

BEWARE: ROYAL DANDIES ARE A SCAM!!!!

Look at Paris Hiltons Royal Dandie Extreme. It's all a load of BS and Patty knows it. She took my $5,000 for the pig and she has been hanging up on my calls ever since I first started trying to reach her about her scam. Sad part is, a lot of pigs are being re-homed every day (royal dandie or otherwise) due to people thinking they will stay much smaller than they actually are. Pigs are very loving and get very attached to their family and vice a versa. The Royal Dandie scam has to be stopped as it is not fair to pigs nor the owners.

Please do not support this business. If you want a pig, you are better off getting it from any breeder anywhere as all your doing by buying a Royal Dandie is supporting a scam.

    2. Hi
I bought a pig from same lady, Patty S. Around Jan 2013. Pig is now about 8 months old. I was ordering food from her and decided to stop buying it from her so i went and bought Mazuri but i started noticing my pig was getting constipated so i switched it to regular potbellied pig food and still he was constipated and ever since i changed food from Patty's, my pig was not only constipated but was not drinking plenty of water., then i had to take him to a vet because my pig was pooping with blood. So vet told me he had a fever and gave piggy meds. I decided to put my piggy back on Patty Sorensen's food, and my piggy went back to normal. Also, ever since my piggy has been eating Patty's food again , i have noticed he went back to drinking lots of water. So, only when i changed Patty's food is when my pig stopped drinking water and got constipated. I trully think Patty's food is great, although when i feed my piggy 1 cup of Patty's food, i also add a fist full of rolled yellow corn and mix it together and my piggy loves it.
For those of you noticing constipation problems, i suggest you try Patty's food at Royaldandies
I also feed my piggy a bowl of fruit (strawberries mixed with either Papaya or cantalope) in between his meals. My piggy eats regular piggy food twice a day, and in between i feed him the fruit and also after his last meal i give him salad and cucumber in small pieces. His first meal around morning, then 4-5 hrs latter the fruit bowl, then an hour to two hrs latter his second meal of piggy food and maybe an hour latter he has salad and cucumber. Can anyone tell me if im overfeeding him?,
Although my piggy is not fat and he looks healthy i still would like to know
      Thanks- here's my email

    3. Please don't listen to this poster. Don't waste your money buying the overpriced food on the Royal Dandie website. Mazuri Mini-Pig chow is much better for them and less expensive. I don't know why the pig became constipated from Mazuri pig chow but I'm guessing that either (1) your lying, or (2) it's a coincidence.

    4. A few days ago I contacted Patty and asked her multiple questions. Two days later, she responded with a one sentenced answer saying "I have a female for sale she is 5,500" I'm not sure if a real pig breeder would say something like that, considering they want sales.. I think its a giant scam

Has anyone taken the time to get organized around the situation? Sounds like she needs to be stopped for a number of reasons. I have a background in business, law, care about the welfare of innocent animals and want to insure the right thing is done here for the past and potential future victims. I would love to hear your story and help get a course of action organized. I have reached out to some of you directly but if you haven't already heard from me please shoot me an email. 5. I would like to interject something here in behalf of Royal Dandies and Patty.
I have had the complete opposite experience with my pigs.
first I would like to say that I doubt there is any other breeder out there that is as considerate and caring about their pigs as Patty is. She not only stands by what she sells but she also helps anyone who has bought from another breeder and has questions.
I happen to have purchased two Royal Dandies from Patty. One is nearing 9 years of age and the other is almost 4 years old.
They both arrived in beautiful condition with updated health certificates.
Both have stayed a very nice small manageable size. the first one I did let graze in the yard and she did start to gain weight. She is 35 lbs now and my second pig I was much more careful with it's he is only 27 lbs.
Both of these pigs have been very healthy and for sure what Patty promised my they would be.
Please don't believe everything you read on this blog. If you want a great, small and healthy pet pig please consider buying it from Patty.
    Thank you,
    Sara from NJ

    1. If this is true, please post some pictures here. I'd love to see these healthy pigs. Pigs should be able to graze and root. That's what pigs do. If your pig was gaining weight from grazing, it is most likely underweight and I'd bet that the other one is too.

Oh and Patty doesn't care one iota about those pigs. It's all about the money.

  6. Hello,
I just want to let readers and yourself know that if you have breeding stock piglets they are absolutely not Royal Dandies or Dandie Extremes. There is only one breeder in the World which is myself.
Both the name Royal Dandies and Dandie Extremes are Registered and Trademarked. All piglets are neutered or spayed before they are sold with no exceptions. All sold piglets are Microchiped and recorded in a registry. I am sorry that some breeders use these names illegally and mislead their clients into thinking they are getting something they are not!
The only place to purchase a Royal Dandie or Dandie Extreme is from Patty Morrisroe. royaldandie.com.
If anyone hears of other breeders calling their pigs by these names please contact me at royaldandie01@netscape.net.
There are several lawsuits pending at this time and I will not hesitate to add more names to these suits.

You are a sick individual, and should be starved and fed next to nothing yourself so you look like someone from the hollocaust. Maybe the Germans were just trying to make Royal Dandy Jews?

    2. Patty, I purchased one of your pigs and he weighs twice what you promised. Do you only use the last name Morrisroe now? When I purchased my pig from you, you went by both Morrisroe and Sorensen. Nice way to confuse people.

I was really hoping that somebody would have shut you down by now. But as long as there are suckers in this world (myself included), who believe your lies, I'm afraid you'll continue to thrive at the expense of those poor, sweet piggies. Do you ever wonder how many of your pigs end up in rescue/abandoned when they grow to be much larger than you promise? Do you even care?

  9. Wow, thanks to all the 'dandie' owners for sharing. I saw one featured on animal planet a few years ago and without really doing research, believed that over a period of generations there was a healthy way to raise smaller-sized pigs. I am, however, disturbed by one entry claiming her pigs are 27 & 35 lbs. While everyone else has pigs that are 80-150 lbs. Ill keep in mind that if and when I'm ready to consider pig ownership, seeking out local and responsible breeders is best.

So glad I did before I layed out 2,000 bucks. I'm thinking I'm just going to go rescue a piglet from the shelter or find a breeder that has morals and not all about money. Thanks to all who posted on here, you saved me from contributing to someone that is misleading and mistreating animals and people.

  13. Given the number of breeders promising the same thing--a "micro-mini" not to exceed 30 pounds-- the attacks on the breeder of Royal Dandies seems unwarranted, unfair, and motivated by personal animosity. Ms. Morrisoe does not deserve abuse simply because she's able to charge a premium price for the same pig as other breeders and get her asking price. Perhaps she overcharges, and no doubt better "deals" are available from other breeders. But that's the way capitalism works, and any buyer has the right to seek the best price available from another breeder, especially in what is increasingly a "buyer's market." Ms. Morrisoe should not be castigated for her success. In fact, she deserves credit for holding the line on her prices rather than devaluing the pig and thus contributing to the scandalous abuse of these poor animals, who are being increasingly punished and dumped simply because the grew up.

  14. Thanks everyone for their opinions. I have been thinking about purchasing from Royal Dandies for about the last month. Now I am not sure if this is a good decision. I can't imagine paying such an exorbitant amount of money for a piglet to then have such issues as those above. I think I will hold off for a while.

  15. From what I have seen in these comments there are two different breeders talking here. One is the legit royal dandies (Patty S) and the bogus one (Patty M) ... all the larger pigs appear to be bought from Patty M ... I would like to hear from people that bought piggies from Patty S

    1. Patty S. and Patty M. are one and the same. I'm pretty sure she uses both names on purpose, so as to confuse people about who she really is. Here's my story.....

I purchased my Royal Dandie piglet from Patty on her Royal Dandie website in May of 2008. Oliver weighed 6 lbs. when we received him. He now weighs about 70 lbs, twice the amount that she promised. Not too bad, considering my first pot-bellied pig topped out at about 185 lbs. But...and this is a big BUT...we did lots of research before buying one of Patty's pigs because I was adamant about not having another animal that I can't pick up. No, I can't pick Oliver up. So, when he needs to go to the vet, I have to have somebody help me get him there.

Patty charges an exorbitant amount for the food she sells on her website, so I contacted a pig nutritionist who told me I'd be better off feeding Oliver Mazuri Mini-Pig Chow. We feed him the pig chow, fruits and vegetables. I'm not sure if any of you are aware but pigs grow until they are at least 3 years old. Oliver isn't my first pig, so I already knew that when we adopted him.

When we received Oliver, he had something wrong with his eye. The vet thought it was an infection but it turns out that there was a piece of straw stuck in his eye. When I called Patty, she claimed that he was fine when he left Oregon. Sure he was!!!

Shortly after we received Oliver, we started getting rashes and itching like crazy. Oliver was also itchy, so I took him to the vet. He had sarcoptic mange, despite Patty's claim that he had been treated with Ivermectin prior to being sent to us. That mange was almost impossible to get rid of. The ivermectin didn't work, so we had to bath him and ourselves in some nasty stuff, the name of which I can't remember at the moment. Anyway...

The day after we started giving Oliver the Ivermectin, he started pooping worms....tons of worms...for over a week. It was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen and to this day, I can't eat spaghetti because that's what the worms looked like. Actually, they looked more like linguini but you get the idea.

Of course, I contacted Patty about all of this and she didn't give a damn. I contacted a lawyer in her area because I wanted to shut her down but nothing came of it. The best I could do was file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau...nothing came of that either.

So consider yourself warned. If you purchase a Royal Dandie piglet, you will have paid a LOT of money for a piglet that will most likely get much bigger than promised. By the time you realize how big it's getting, you will love it too much to get rid of it...unless you're a complete ass. You will also run the risk of the piglet having some sort of health problem, which will equal big veterinary expenses.

Do yourself and all of the unwanted little piggies a favor. If you want a pot-bellied pig, get one from a pig rescue. There will be one less unwanted piggy in the world and you will save yourself a lot of money and aggravation.

  17. Perhaps someone should dig a little deeper into this situation. 60 minutes certainly would. They would bring nationwide attention to this breeder. Make Contact with her local municipality with questions regarding zoning, permits to preform testing on her animals, proper building permits for any constructed buildings she has on her property. See to it those of you that opted to pick your babies up at her location file your complaints with her local humane society. I find it suspect that all her claims are within the letter of the law. Start a petition at " CHANGE.ORG" . file complaints with P.e.t.a. "people for the ethical treatment of animals. Contact her county office to check on whether or not she has a license to operate a buisness. Is she paying taxes on all this money shes making off these animals ??? Send off a sample of her " balanced food" have it analyzed. Stand together people. There is strength in numbers. I'm certain if all is legitimate with her/her website she wont mind proving you wrong.

They gladly push off an animal on anyone they can and are the reason shelters are so packed to the brim. It's a sad truth that I see all too often, so please people, do your research and serious consider rescuing.

  21. I bought a Royal Dandie 'Extreme' from Patty six years ago. This pig was only supposed to get to 35 pounds max. I can see that the website has now been changed to say that Extremes can be 39 pounds.

She is now fully grown and is just over 80lbs.

When she got to 50lbs and was clearly not done growing yet I knew that Patty's food certainly not going to keep her to the promised weight, so I just switched to Mizuri and that's what I feed her now.

I love her to death, she's so sweet, but I will say that it was a rip-off and the pig is more than twice what she was supposed to weigh.

I think that Patty does people a disservice as her website makes it sound like the final max weight of the pig is very predictable, but it sounds like based on a bunch of people's experiences on this site (and mine!), that it's actually quite variable. Maybe you'll get one that stays under 40#, but maybe it will grow to 120#!

  23. I'm another Royal Dandie owner. We got our baby in 2009. He was a Dandie Extreme, the smallest sized pig you could purchase from Patty. It took a few years, but he has topped out at 110 lbs. In the beginning I bought her "speciallly formulated" food and other products, but once my pig was 60 lbs. I didn't see the point anymore. Our vet recommended the Mazuri pig feed. I contacted Patty about our pigs size. She said it was our fault for not feeding him her food, for allowing hom to graze on grass and/or not giving him enough exercise. My vet assured me he was a healthy weight and even wrote up a letter for me to send to Patty. Once she saw the vet's letter and pictures of him she stopped all contact with us. Our pig has also had some medical issues. When he was 2 he needed a surgery to reduce the excess skin/fat pads above his eyes because he could hardly see anymore. We had to drive him out of state to a University for the surgery and it cost us over $1,500.00. He also has a birth defect in his front ankles so we have to be extra careful about his weight. I love him so much and am so happy he ended up in our home and not with someone who may not have been able to keep him due to size. It's extremely sad that these animals are sold for thousands of dollars with a false representation of what they truly become. Beware and do your research.

  24. I bought a Royal Dandie Extreme (whatever that means) in 2010, and sure, she's still pretty small, but she's got tons of health problems. She weighs less than 40 pounds and is about 2 feet long. Her teeth get terrible build up on them and have to be professionally cleaned at her vet at least twice a year. Her skin is dry and flakey, she's thin and brittle-seeming, despite being on a regular diet that includes lots of snacks. She sleeps for 90% of the day. I fed her Patty's food for about a year until she developed bladder stones. She was unable to urinate for days and would struggle and cry. Her vet said her bladder was at risk of exploding and was talking surgery. We tried all these different things to break them up and eventually it worked, but the problem comes back from time to time. I attribute it to genetics and Patty's crazy food formula definitely didn't help. I contacted her when the problem started and she couldn't have cared less. She tried to sell me vitamins. Recently my pig started getting over heated so I've had to keep her inside and monitor a lot more than normal. The gist: these pigs are so genetically messed up that they're not ever going to be as healthy and happy as pigs should be. I had no idea what went into this industry when I got my pet, and while I love her, I would never buy another "mini-pig" again.
